About Our Founder

By day, Urooj Abbas thrives as a litigation paralegal. By night, she’s the creative force behind Kahani, the small business she founded in 2020. A proud New Jersey native and a Rutgers University alumna, Urooj holds degrees in History, Psychology, and Middle Eastern Studies.

Her passion for giving back began long before Kahani. In 2018, she co-founded the Crescent Heart Foundation, a nonprofit that provides hygiene and personal care items to individuals experiencing poverty or homelessness, empowering them to focus on rebuilding their lives. This ethos of generosity is central to Kahani’s mission: people always come before profits.

Kahani also serves as a creative outlet for Urooj, offering a refreshing balance to the structure of the legal world. Through candle-making and design, she infuses her personality and artistry into every product. Beyond managing creative marketing, product development, and shooting campaigns for Kahani, Urooj enjoys exploring her passions outside of work, including hiking, kayaking, traveling, and interior home design.

Looking ahead, Urooj envisions not only a thriving candle brand but also a future in meaningful home décor through “Kahani Home,” where her love for design can shine.
